Daybreak on 15th August 1947, marked a new chapter in Indian
History. It was on this day that we finally deposed the British
Rule and took charge of our own destiny. Today, 62 years since
the infant India took its first steps under the leadership
of our first Prime Minister; Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, we now
stand on the threshold of entering the league of developed
nations. And in order to commemorate this epic journey the
student’s of Don Bosco celebrated the 63rd Independence
Day on 13th August 2009.
The event was celebrated with great gusto and enthusiasm.
We gathered for the morning assembly as usual and proceeded
to Junior Assembly hall. The event began by invoking god’s
blessing through the means of a prayer presented by Pronit
of 10 A, Adnan of 8B and Ashish of 10C.

After the prayer, our principal Reverend Father Binny Issac
addressed the zealous gathering with his thought-provoking
words. He used the childhood story of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
as the example of struggle for freedom. The Principal’s
address was followed by an enchanting and mellifluous patriotic
song presented to us by the student’s of class 7, 8
and 9. Subsequent to the song was a speech delivered by two
students of class 11-Mizan Siddiqui and Ujjwal Sen . It highlighted
how trivial and trifling actions like turning of lights or
tap when not in use are attributes of patriotism and how we
can bring about a change in society just by mending our perspective
and attitude. The hilt of discipline - the march past, was
the star event, as the students of Classes 8 and 9 presented
the March of Valor. The students marched to the beats of a
patriotic bollywood song, ‘Kandhon se milte hai Kandhe’
carrying placards painted in the three hues of freedom- saffron,
white and green. After performing a series of maneuvers the
contingent of Bosconians sprang into formation to form the
letters INDIA. With this the program came to an end and we
all rose to attention for the national anthem. And now that
I am about to breach the assigned word limit, I conclude on
the note – VANDE MATRAM.
