The 23rd Annual Fr. Thomas Memorial Quiz

“Let there be no question unanswered;

Let there be knowledge floating in the air-

Like fragrance in the sky and ripples on the lakes

Let the quiz be just and fair.”

The Fr. Thomas Memorial Quiz has always been a much awaited interschool competition among the venerable schools of Delhi. The 23rd year of this quiz started off with the vivacious spirit of the Bosconians.  The invocation hymn was sung melodiously by the junior Hindi choir which elated the nervousness of the budding quizzers who had flocked in from various schools. Our administrator, Fr. Sujith Augustine delivered the welcome speech and encouraged the participants and declared the quiz open.

The quizmaster for the day was, the very proficient Bosconian, Mathews K Thomas sir, who conducted almost the whole quiz with his clarity and effervescence.

The first phase or the prelims was met with a written round where there were six categories of questions. Only top eight teams out of around forty schools got selected for the second phase. The second phase saw a vast range of categories with which the quizzers were tested – sports, literature, Bollywood, logos, cars and culture.

The twist in the tale and the icing on the cake was when the principal, Fr. Babu Varghese, himself stepped on the stage and conducted the rapid fire round. He mesmerized the audience with his cameo appearance; his ever ending satire and generosity in giving marks.

There was cut throat competition – the first prize was bagged by Raghbubir Singh Jr. Modern School and with just a few points behind, The Mother’s International got the second prize. DPS Vasant Kunj secured the third position.

The quiz was a huge success after all there were masterminds behind it- Ruhi ma’am, Anupama ma’am and Vimal Ma’am. But all accolades are of the simple Saint – Fr. Babu Varghese, who inspires us just as our patron saint, St. John Bosco.
